What is an Orb?
Orbs are very hard for people to grasp. Some can be seen with the naked eye but most orbs are actually caught using flash photography.
Some of you may be asking "Well what is an orb?" An orb is an anomaly usually in a photograph, film, or with the naked eye, that can range in color from clear/white, to any color on the spectrum of light.
Sometimes they appear singly and sometimes they appear in vast numbers. They can appear indoors, and outdoors, at night or during the day.

Now finally lets take a look at an actual Orb. Ask yourself does it meet all ...
If Something Isn't a Genuine Orb, What is it?
There are a few things that they could be. You have to consider many things when you are analyzing orbs.
First, you have to know the instrument you are using to capture the image (is it a flash camera or not?).
Second, you have to pay attention to your surroundings. Is it light out, is it dark out, is it raining/snowing, is it cold, is it hot? What time of year is it? Is there pollen in the atmosphere? These are all key elements in the surrounding environment that could create "Orbs".
Third, take note if their are elements in nature that are disruptive or about, for example bugs, worms, spiders, etc.
When a camera produces a flash, any natural particles or objects within the range of that light source are going to reflect back as an image. This is how we get dust, rain drops, snow flakes, even bugs, that fool you into thinking it's something paranormal, when in fact it's just natural.
Are Orbs a Paranormal Phenomenon?
I believe that orbs have the potential to be a paranormal phenomenon but ONLY when they can be corroborated by other evidence. Orbs alone are never purely paranormal in my book. At most, without other evidence to back up the presence of an orb, it is an environmental anomaly caused by natural elements.
If you experience what you think is an orb, always analyze your environment to see if it could have been something else. When you can come up with no rational explanation for it's presence, then take it for what it is...a great and different experience!
Remember, the paranormal cannot be proven by personal experience alone, there must always be evidence, whether it be in the form of EVP's, pictures, video, etc. to back up the stories!

Pic was taken at the Myrtles Plantation by Joe Dyess of Lufkin Paranormal Investigations. Orbs are always a controversial subject in the field of paranormal...
Why Do Orbs Occur?
Orbs can occur for a couple of reasons. First reason it's actually an orb, the second reason is that it is a case of mistaken identification. In my experience, genuine orbs have their own flight pattern (not just wavering or current following), they seem to interact with the subjects present (if any) and they emit their own light source. Orbs that I have seen with my own eyes tend to be extremely fast and have been in the shades of red, orange, green, blue, and white. The times that I have experienced genuine orbs, were corroborated by other paranormal experiences, such as an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon), while listening to EVP's, and also hearing disembodied voices, which is the only reason that I acknowledge them as orbs. In any other instance, with no corroborative evidence, it's just an energy anomaly.
Why would I classify these as dust orbs? Because you can tell the location that they are in is a tunnel where they are walking kicking up loose debris. You can also tell by the lack of outerwear, that it's warm enough out for their to be pollen as well in the atmosphere. If there is any way that I can reasonably prove that the particles may be something other than an orb through rational thinking, I will throw it out.

These are clearly rain droplets that the camera picked up with the flash. You can see very obviously that the ground is soaked from it raining. In my mind, this is nothing more than water reflecting.

The brightest anomaly in this photo towards the middle of the picture is a spider or bug. You can clearly see the definition in the legs of the animal. As for the other orb like objects, given that this appears to have been taken in the woods during a warm period (as there are still leaves and greenery), I would say that they too could be bugs, but more likely pollen.
