Well I can without a shred of doubt tell you that I know that animals do experience paranormal events. I have witnessed it first hand with my own animals on different occasions.
I recall one occasion with my cat when I was in my own bedroom. I had set up a desktop computer right next to my bed so that I can view the screen and also glance at the TV. The cat was laying down next to me to my right and just off to my right was my closet. I was listening to audio analysis when I saw this bright orange ball of light shoot out of my closet go in between the TV and the computer and dart out my window. I thought to myself "Wow, you really need to go to bed cause now you're seeing crap!" Then I sat there and analyzed the situation. I recall that just before I saw the ball of light shoot out from my closet, I watched my cats ears perk up and her head moved to the closet and followed the ball of light through the room. I realized then, that my cat had just seen what had just seen! Not only that, but she knew it was going to happen before it actually did because her head turned to look at the closet just before it happened.
I also had an experience with the same cat in my apartment. I remember that I was sitting on my futon in my living room one night completely sad and just crying over something that was going on in my personal life. My cat always has this sweet way of just being right next to me or even on me when she knows I'm sick or upset. This particular occasion, she was sitting right next to me letting me pet her. All of a sudden she just turned very sharply to face me and her ears stood up. At that same moment I heard a voice whisper in my ear. I could not tell if it was male or female or what it said, but I knew one thing, I definitely heard a voice in my ear, and I felt like there was someone right next to me. The cool thing about this was that the cat again heard it too. As soon as the whisper stopped the cat just jumped off the futon and went in the kitchen.
When I'm home, I pay attention to my cat all the time. I know that she will show me in her own little ways if something is up. It's up to us to learn to interpret their behaviors. As humans we have the ability to see, hear, feel, taste, and smell and with those observations and sensations, interpret them. That's what a lot of paranormal research has to deal with, interpretation. We gather evidence and it is up to us as investigators to interpret evidence and present our findings. Do we have all the answers? No, but we can do our best to interpret our findings in a logical manner and present those to our clients.
My biggest word of advice to clients and even just people in general who are having experiences that they can't explain, please pay attention to your animals! They do see and hear a lot more than we ever will. Pay attention, they do speak, just in their own way.
